Adult Laser Tag

Not Just For Kids, Right?

O.k., so kids make up the vast majority of the laser tag customer base, but in my experience, the adult laser tag events I've run have been as fun as, and definitely wilder than, many of the kid laser tag parties I've run. And by events and parties, I mean mobile laser tag, not indoor arenas. Most of the adults at these laser tag events are game to play because, well, they've already accepted the invitation to the adult party or, better yet, were required to attend the "first annual team building laser tag event" for work so why not try to enjoy it. And yeah, there's usually one reluctant person worried that he will be too sophisticated for a "child's" game, recognizable as the guy constantly saying, "I don't get it."  But once the orientation is received and the gear is strapped on, the recollection that none of us were born as adults begin to kick in almost as fast as a laser lighting up a sensor.

Let The Games Begin

The start of the first game may be met with some adults' apprehension, but that quickly transforms into bewilderment, followed by reassessing, morphing into mobilization, leading into tactical expediency, culminating by an onward team surge and thus victory - maybe. But what's definite is the "after the first game" buzz of excitement, where the winning team reassures itself that its fancy tactics and mid-game maneuvers were spot on. In contrast, the losing team comes up with a new strategic plan for victory in the next game, which usually means let's copy what the winning team just did to us, and we're sure to win this time. This mix of thirty-somethings to fifty-somethings remembers what it was like to be nine to thirteen-year-old because of a "child's" game called laser tag.

Wild, Wild West

A Laser Tag 50th Birthday Party
More times than not, though, there is a caveat at adult laser tag events that is nonexistent at kid laser tag events. The caveat in one word - alcohol.  My guess is that indoor laser tag arenas don't normally encounter the "intoxicated mob with guns" issue, albeit laser tag guns are harmless, unless, of course, the arena grants a "b.y.o.b." policy for adult private groups, yet I seriously doubt it. But mobile laser tag at a plush resort for team building or a milestone 40-year-old birthday party usually includes, no... always includes, booze.  Be aware that the result of mixing alcohol with laser tag is the same as mixing alcohol with, well, anything else.  Usually, most participants will drink in moderation and thus conduct themselves in a proper enough way to enjoy the inherent fun of playing laser tag. But of course, there's always "that guy" or even "that gal." You know, the one with three drinks too many, jumping over barriers but never entirely clearing the barriers, only to smash face-first onto the ground.  The best scenario is he'll roll over onto his back and slur the words "I'm o.k.".  Worst-case scenario... well, I'm sure you don't need a description here to picture that one.

Is Laser Tag A Good Idea For My Adult Party or Event?

Yes, of course, it is.  It may sound cliche, but laser tag is a great team-building option. All the laser tag team-building events I've run have been great successes.  And they've accomplished the goal of coworkers figuring out how to succeed as a team using strategic planning techniques, figuring out what works and what doesn't, and then making proper adjustments on the fly.  Laser tag is also great for milestone birthdays, 30, 40, 50, and anytime over 50.  Your participants will suspend adulthood and enter childhood nostalgia, if only for a few hours. Just be aware of the influence of available libations and moderate accordingly.  Then enjoy yourself and have a blast!
